4 Tips for a Better Urgent Care Visit

You have an illness or injury that needs same-day attention. But your regular doctor isn’t available today—or maybe you aren’t free during standard office hours.

No problem. A visit to your local urgent care center is often a handy solution. Here’s how to optimize your urgent care experience.

1.      Know when to choose urgent care.

It’s meant for conditions that need prompt medical care but aren’t severe or life-threatening, such as:

  • Allergic reactions

  • Cuts

  • Diarrhea

  • Migraines

  • Pinkeye

  • Rashes

  • Sinus infections

  • Sore throats

  • Sprains

  • Vomiting

2.      Go when it’s convenient for you.

Typically, urgent care centers have extended hours and are open on weekends.

3.      View wait times or book an appointment.

You don’t need an appointment to be seen promptly. But for the fastest service, some urgent care centers allow you to view current wait times or book a spot online. Check your center’s website.

4.      Bring a list of all your medications.

Include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and supplements. Don’t forget your health insurance card, too.
